Welcome to our Site. We chose GumboPirate because it accurately describes our lifestyle and background: one of us has lived the pirate life for the last few years, while the other is of cajun heritage from the Bayous of South Louisiana. We have merged our lives, creating a combination of the best that each has to offer- a gumbo if you will- of good times, good foods, a wandering spirit, laughter and great advertures.
We met in May of 2008- a total random meeting that was serendipitous and life changing for both of us. A burger at Port of Call restaurant in New Orleans set the stage, and we have been inseparable ever since. Don’t want to give anyone a cavity here, but we are soulmates and are happier than we ever imagined we could be. Now that we have found each other, we intend to live every day to the fullest and experience all the great things that this world has to offer- together. We are beginning our adventures with a sailing adventure across the islands of the Caribbean. We have no timetable, no set agenda, no parameters.. we will just go where our hearts and intuition take us. We intend to memorialize our journey here. We hope you enjoy the ride!
About the Pirate
I was a workaholic for twenty-seven years, building a company from scratch and turning into a thriving buisness. At the age of 49, with some friends dying and my knee injuries, back problems and other ailments starting to take it’s toll, I decided to heed the advice of my parents and friends to relax a little. I decided to find a hobby. After No experience whatsoever in boating, I spontaneously purchased a 48.6′ Privilage Catamaran and my new hobby was born. Since then, I have spent 7 years honing my sailing skills and have made 6 round trips from Rhode Island to the Bahammas. I have logged over 25,000 miles and have secured my 100 ton captain’s license. The islands of the Caribbean have become my second home and I intend to one day write a book about all of my travels and experiences detailing the primitive, trendy and fun spots of the Caribbean and its genuine, friendly people.
This journey will be extra special, as I will be sharing with my soulmate. After being on shore for the past few months, the sea is calling me back….
About the Cajun:
I a Cajun girl from Bayou Lafourche area of South Louisiana, but a City girl at heart. New Olreans being the place I call home and the city that I love- it is in my blood. I am a Ph.D. in Political Science, but my career focus has always been in criminal justice- and New Orleans has proved a great place to ply my trade as there is lots of crime. My life was hugely impacted by Hurricane Katrina and since then all of my energy has been focused on rebuilding and reforming the criminal justice system of New Orleans and running an organization dedicated to that end- that is until I met the Pirate J
Meeting the Pirate has changed my life- he has lifted my spirit and renewed my sense of fun and adventure. I am leaving the daily grind of managing a business and working for justice and embarking on the adventure of a lifetime with the man of my dreams. I have absolutely NO real sailing experience aside from 10 days aboard our boat back in June- but I learned more about love and the Pirate than I did about trimming a sheet or tying a bowline. However my Dad did own a tugboat company- so that has to count for something right? However, I am a fast learner and a hard worker, so all will be fine. I will be the primary architect of the GumboPirate website and promise to keep it fresh and fun so that all of you can share in our adventures and enjoy our journey.. but not nearly as much as we will!
