It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to our floating home, our island neighborhood and our many new friends for the summer. The storm season is already here and the boat needs some out of the water TLC. It is time for us to return to the states for a little while to take care of business so that we can return and do it all again in a couple of months.
Our last week in Grenada was a flurry of activity as we prepared the boat to be hauled out and scheduled all of the maintenance and repair work to be done on it while we are gone. The list of things to be done continued to grow each day and with that grew the cost! It was time to go before the money ran out !! When we return in September, the boat will be in tip top shape and ready for another season of sailing.
We have had a phenomenal time sailing the islands together. The richness of the experience is beyond words. Along the way we have met countless interesting people from all over the world, seen the most beautiful scenery, hiked in lush rainforests, swam in crystal blue waters, caught feasts of fish, and visited unique restaurants, resorts and beach bars. Best of all, we have grown closer together and have all of these wonderful memories to share. We both are so fortunate to have found each other and have the opportunity to travel to these exotic places. Each day was a wonderful adventure. Each day we woke up and went to bed smiling. Each day we learned new things. What a wonderful gift. We have so much to be thankful for.
Our short time in the states will be busy as we go to several different states and cities, visit family and friends and take care of business. We have lots to catch up on and much to celebrate.
Before you know it, Gumbopirate will be returning to Grenada to do it all again. Our itinerary for next season is still unfolding. There are a couple of islands that we missed and will make sure to get to. There are also “favorite” places that we will be returning to. But mostly, we will be going when and where the mood strikes us. We hope that you will continue to follow our adventures, both on land and at sea.
